Some tv show where the future was a dystopian disaster with resources dying so people were sent back in time to dinosaur era.

I think I made it a good 6 episodes before I lost interest due to cliche storylines

Haha no! Apparently it's been cancelled and it was called Terra Nova. Nice concept, poor execution and cancelled because too expensive to make episodes (but was received well).

Very late with this but I thought the OP was talking about Julien May's Many Colored Land. Re-read it and saw "tv" and realized my mistake.

I just couldn't stand the parents. I get that reproductive freedom is important and I am all for it in the current day, but the situation they were in was pretty damn dire as far as overpopulation went and what exactly was their plan with this whole other illegal person? When the father was all "it felt like a good idea at the time" to the general I wanted to smack him. But then, I wanted to smack a lot of the characters. I think the ones I liked the most were the older sister and the army guy who was being old-fashioned about liking her.

The trouble is the season ended on an interesting note, but they didn't build up to that so interest waned. And like you said, hugely cliche storylines.
