Re: What do you like to see in a hurt/comfort fic?

I like a lot of long, detailed hurt. I need happy endings too, but they don't have to be as detailed. If most of the fic is comfort, I lose interest.

Though if it's a severe physical injury, I love long-term recovery fics too, probably because the character continues to be hurt and in pain for a while even during the recovery. I like this most when it's about the character adjusting to some major physical change, like going blind or losing the use of their legs or being disfigured in some way. Body horror is good too.

I really like platonic hurt/comfort, where it's the character's best friend or family member who's helping them and there's no romantic component. I like the romance ones too, but having a platonic relationship in there is just icing on the cake.

"Fluffy" hurt/comfort (like someone being taken care of during a bout of the flu) is usually too lightweight for me - it's fine if I'm in the mood for fluff, but if I'm actually looking for hurt/comfort I'm generally looking for more severe pain and angst.

Oh, that reminds me of SGA fandom, they have a lot of long detailed whump.
