Well, I'll admit, I haven't seen very much where the character is like "why did you not notice?" I've seen more where the narration/author has the characters acting like they're the Worst People Ever for not noticing.

I mean, characters, sure, depending. But if the narration backs it up... It does feel very teenage.

Yeah, that's how I like it too! One of my favorite story cliches is when one of the characters gets hurt, but hides it ~for reasons~ only for it to be accidentally revealed. Especially if it's one of the "strong" characters (like Thor or Cap) who was hurt, and they're powering through it by sheer force, but they can only hold out for so long-!

Yeah... That was honestly one of the reasons I never really started getting into Harry Potter fanfic. :/

Hiding it 'for reason', yes. Being a hardened reader, sometimes I turn my eyes heavenwards when reading h/c cliches, but I still like them.
