I didn't have any special insider information. I just put together a bunch of clues I saw in the text--for example, the way they and James interacted in the Pensieve memory, stuff other people had pointed out about the symbolic meanings of asphodel and wormwood, the way Snape always seemed to protect Harry in spite of apparently loathing him, the fact that Voldemort inexplicably gave Lily a chance to stand aside instead of killing her immediately, just a bunch of little things that added up--and wrote up the essay in support of my interpretation.
