Not sure if you'll see this, because it's so late, but anyway.
I've seen you around kink meme, btw, so hi!

I would never insult anyone for liking Kili or finding him attractive, it's just not how I roll. And it's not like I hate Kili or anything, I just don't find him interesting.

Ah, you're my type of person, I dislike Thranduil/Thorin too, mostly because I don't like pairings that start with such hate between characters (and it's not even sexy hate like the "he's so frustrating, but also hot" it's just this burning-white-pure hate at least from Thorin's side), and most of the fics don't seem to have a proper build-up, which is the most important part for me. But hey, shippers gonna ship.
I can work my brain around the elves-only-marry-once thing if I want to. I haven't read Silmarillion, so that might be it. Though there's not many people I'd pair with Thranduil in the first place.
I completely agree with the rape thing, though. It just doesn't sit well with me. I don't like when characters are made ultra-evul by making them rape people. Thranduil seems to be made ultra-evul villainest of villains a lot. Personally I can see where he's coming from, and I don't think he's bad at all, the movie's just told from the dwarves' POV, so of course he's not going to look NICE.

Sorry, got a bit rambly there...

Yeah, I had to wonder if you're a kink meme regular that you'd probably recognise me instantly.

I feel attempts to make up a relationship between Thranduil and Thorin before Smaug forgets just how young Thorin really was back then. Taking into account that he looks adult in the movie, he's still a very young dwarf who would not have been mentally mature, so I can't help think there's something slightly creepy about a relationship at that stage of his life.

The thing with rape from the POV of someone who has read or otherwise heard bits and pieces of Tolkien's extra writings is that he dictated that for an Elf to be raped would spell instant death - their spirit flees their body and goes to Mandos in reaction to the violation. In turn, for an Elf to commit such an act would make them so vile they should not be considered an Elf any more.

The one time I posted a prompt based on that thought I got accused of kink-shaming.

Thranduil is not the sort of minor villain character who even catches my interest. He's just... that annoying Elfking who gets in the way and is totally unreasonable, so I really don't feel much of anything over any pairing involving him.
But I don't like seeing him cast as super-evil either. He's a Elf who is protective of his people to the point of being obstructionist, but that does not make him Sauron-level evil.

Yeah pre-Smaug Thranduil/Thorin skeeves me out because of the age difference too. Same goes for Thranduil/Kili. Kili's so darn young both in maturity and years and Thranduil is mature enough to be a father. And eeehh, that's just not...
Besides I can't figure out what Thranduil would get out of a relationship with a dwarf. What would interest him in either of them? I could see Thranduil and Thorin being maybe able to hold a conversation if they weren't so hateful of each other, but Kili and Thranduil?

I'm sorry to hear that you got accused of kink-shaming. I must have missed it. It's like, I don't care if people want non-con, their kink is not my kink and that's ok, but that would have been a nice aspect to explore.

My interest in Thranduil lies mostly with his relationship with Legolas. Like how his protectiveness affected Legolas while growing up. Father-son relationships are my thing, especially if there's a hint of conflict in there.
