I watched the first two seasons of The L Word when I was coming to terms with my sexuality (lesbian). I was, I guess, in the "honeymoon" gay phase - bought all sorts of rainbow crap, and watched anything gay I could get my hands on. The L Word was supposedly a sacred text among lesbians, so.

But to be honest? I didn't like it at all. The pacing, stories, and most of the characters were bland and uninteresting. I appreciate the idea of the show, but I just didn't like it. I heard it got worse as it went on, so good thing I jumped ship then.

Agreed: I found the pacing very...offputting, for lack of a better word. I would have liked the stories and the characters more if the pacing was more even tbh.

I'm watching the show for the first time and I'm curious about how I'll react to the second half after seeing opinions like this.

I'm surprised I like it as much as I do. This is so not the kind of show I would normally watch.

I'm glad I only watching the first couple seasons then.

I've never watched this and have nothing to add except that it looks like that one woman is wearing a trash bag and that is not a good look.

(Anonymous) 2014-01-21 04:01 am (UTC)(link)
My sister wore a trash bag once. It was actually pretty rockin'.

Senior year of high school, watching Shane & Carmen with my girlfriend...sigh. That was a bright spot of those days.

(Anonymous) 2014-01-21 05:18 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh Carmen. I am still irrationally willing to follow Sarah Shahi to projects I have zero interest in. Though that probably has just as much to do with Life as it does L Word.

Life was SO good. My parents have watched Person of Interest since it started, and I never saw the draw, but recently I've started watching with them because Sarah Shahi.

I didn't pay attention to the show at all until 5 seasons had already come out. Watched them all in a binge one weekend I spent over at a friend's. You can probably imagine the range of emotions that I experienced over those 2 days. Never bothered going back for season 6.

I watched the first 3(?) seasons recently and then I stopped. I have never followed the show religiously and when it was on tv I occasionally watched it but now a second time around I was actually excited for everything. I have no idea what happens in the later seasons. But I left on a damn good note.

Ah yes. I was a fan of The L Word. Nowadays I only love the first season because it really became a train wreck after season 3, even though I loved Tasha and sympathized with Jodi. And the writers really fucked up Jenny.

Nope. This was never good.

Second lady to the left is gorgeous. Hot damn.

/all I got

So. What happened in the later seasons? They all turned straight?

Pfff, same. I was so glad that it existed when I learned about it.

Then I started watching it and was like "NOPE". It was like lesbian!Sex & the City, and I ended up hating everyone by the start of the second season already. Couldn't relate to any characters. I had high hopes for Jenny (because wow, a female writer who likes girls!) and it gives me second-hand embarrassment what they did to her. Disliked her so much. But the others weren't much better either.

(Anonymous) 2014-01-21 06:06 am (UTC)(link)
All I remember about that show was how cool Shane was, and how much I disliked Jenny by season 3. When they tried to make both girls BFFs, I gave up on it.

(Anonymous) 2014-01-21 11:41 am (UTC)(link)
My friend who introduced me to the show called me "stereotypical" for liking Shane best.

(Anonymous) 2014-01-21 05:22 pm (UTC)(link)
Well there's a reason everyone liked Shane the best, haha. (da)

It was bad in the same way that most television dramas that run for too many seasons are bad. They run out of plots, start doing worse and worse ones, force the characters into plots and situations that don't fit them at all

(Anonymous) 2014-01-21 03:37 pm (UTC)(link)
if by too many seasons, you mean two - then I agree. (still bitter about Alice and Dana)
