It's not even that I'd lose respect for him.

It's just that at this stage in the story, it wouldn't be believable because thus far, he's been portrayed as incredibly devoted to his wife.

A few seasons down the road, if Katrina dies?

Then I could see Ichabod/Abbie becoming canon and it feeling organic.

But for now I like how the creators are handling it.
