favorite fic in your favorite genre

(Anonymous) 2014-01-21 12:03 am (UTC)(link)
Originally I was going to ask for your all time favorite h/c fic, and I'd still like to hear that, but I think it'd be fun to open it up to all genres. So what is your favorite fic from your favorite genre. That one h/c fic that is the epitome of your idea h/c, or the mystery or romance or fluff that is just in your opinion the ultimate of the genre.

Any fandom, obvs.

ArsenicJade is the name the comes to mind when I think of really well done hurt/comfort. She's the one I go to when I need to sink myself into some h/c fic.

Her story All In (http://tasteofpoison.inkubation.net/viewstory.php?sid=504) is a favorite. It's slave-fic and I don't even like slave-fic.

I think Domarzione's Freezer Burn series is one of the best examples of Action/Adventure and friendship-centric fic in not just MCU fandom, but all the fandoms I've ever been in. It's one of my favorite, and has some great mystery elements and twisty plots in it to boost. Not to mention one of my favorites parts of the movies are how they have a "comics in the real world/realistic comics" feel to them, and this series takes it even further (strong real-culture and military elements abound), so this series is basically my favorite fanfic series of all time. ♥

Favorite H/C:
https://www.fanfiction.net/s/4213960/1/Figurative-Hell-and-Literal-High-Water
"Rodney’s desperate to save his team, and Keller’s just trying to keep up, on a planet where hurricanes can last for days." High stakes, physical injuries that both main characters keep pushing through, emotional distress--there's rather a LOT of Hurt, but it's not torture porn, and the eventual Comfort is low-key and satisfyingly both emotional and physical.

Favorite crossover:
https://www.fanfiction.net/s/5479811/1/Mask-of-Sanity
"Bodies in a small town bring the Criminal Minds team and the Winchester brothers into town, but with different missions." It's in the authors slightly AU SPN-verse with their OCs is fairly prominent roles, but even with that it perfectly blends the two universes, imho. The Criminal Minds team being faced with two crazy 'monster hunters' who end up being real is GREAT.

Emotional H/C, I guess. I always recommend L'Angel's The Hirac Delest because it feels like an excerpt from canon.

My Immortal is probably the epitome of badfic.

Yes, badfic is actually my favorite genre. I'm not even kidding. Nothing makes me laugh as hard, except playing Taboo with my family.

The Hobbit/LotR crossover - The Raven's Blade by Valandhir.
Genre: Gen, Adventure, Friendship
http://archiveofourown.org/series/36072

1st fic: Boromir meets Kíli on the way to Rivendell. They become friends and Kíli gets involved in the War of the Ring.

2nd fic: Boromir travels back in time to save Kíli from a curse, and ends up joining the Company on the quest to Erebor.

3rd fic: In the aftermath of reclaiming Erebor, much trouble and intrigue abounds.

4th fic: Kíli goes to Rivendell, and on the way meets a Gondorian who is very familiar.

5th fic: A side-story best read midway through the 4th fic, preferably around about Amon Hen, before Isengard.

6th fic: a prequel about the events of the First Age, and the lives of various Elves, and also the early Dwarves. Currently on hiatus.

There's also a 7th and 8th fic, but they are German translations of the first two fics still being edited.

I love this series because it's epic, plotty, and has a wonderful friendship in it. I may RP a slash AU-verse of this with Valandhir, but I also love this as a beautiful gen-fic that does not need a feature romance up front.
