(Anonymous) 2014-01-21 12:05 am (UTC)(link)Really, though, what I know about this show boils down to "everyone is an asshole and then everyone dies". It doesn't appeal to me much.

(Anonymous) 2014-01-21 12:12 am (UTC)(link)Speaking as a diehard fan of the show, that is ... pretty much accurate :) It's a dystopic, operatic tragedy in space, with the best space villain of the 70s, but if you want non-ambiguous heroes (or even nice people) and a happy ending ... yeah. B7 isn't really the show for you.

(Anonymous) 2014-01-21 12:55 am (UTC)(link)Yup. Options for women in B7: Space Pirate/Smuggler and Pilot of Alien Ship (Jenna), Space Rebel Fighters/Leaders (Avalon and Cally), Space Mercenaries (Soolin), Space Resistance Scientist's Warrior Daughter (Dayna), Space Traitorous Fascist Infiltrator (Anna Grant), or BITCH QUEEN OF THE GALAXY IN CLOTHES THAT WOULD MAKE MING THE MERCILESS WEEP WITH ENVY (Servalan).
I sort of saw B7 at an impressionable age, and came away wanting to rule the universe a little bit. Ooops?

(Anonymous) 2014-01-21 01:08 am (UTC)(link):D The show where you get a shot of Avon accidentally breaking off a bit of a Styrofoam console, and it's not the outtakes, it's a hastily disguised part of the actual show because they've literally got a budget of around 50 pounds a week and that shit's expensive.
Ah, nostalgia.

(Anonymous) 2014-01-21 12:17 am (UTC)(link)And Servalan may have been an asshole, and a murderer, and a fascist dictator, and a slave trader, and guilty of genocide, and torture, and mind-fuckery, and perverting the course of justice, and drugging entire populations into mindless obediency, and generally made the guy who slaughtered over a thousand helpless civilians then tried to wipe out all of humanity look sympathetic by comparison, but damnit--she was FABULOUS!

(Anonymous) 2014-01-21 12:26 am (UTC)(link)I mean, the show was seriously depressing and dystopic and Servalan actually went past morally bankrupt into the black hole of utter amorality on the other side, but holy shit was she ever one of the most impressive characters ever put to screen.
And, um. Yes, I can go on like this a while, why do you ask?
