For the job, do you have a contact at the job you're moving for that you can give them? I think usually all that landlords really care about is that you have someone who can verify that you do, in fact, have some sort of money coming in regularly. And I think most employers are willing to do that.

For not having a previous landlord, just be up front about it, really. Honestly, who cares if your landlord thinks that you're a loser? They're a landlord. I think as long as you're upfront about your situation, a lot of people will roll with it, especially if you're professional and generally seem responsible. If they don't, they don't, and you keep looking. Just, "I've been living with family at the moment, and I don't really have any previous landlord references that I can give you."

Good luck to you! I know it's hard looking for this stuff and getting it all sorted out, and I hope that you can work it all out.

I do have a contact who has been really nice and helpful. I'm sure she'll verify my employment. If it's money they're concerned about would a bank statement set them at ease? I have a lot of money saved up for my move and even if I weren't getting paid I would be able to pay rent for over a year. (There have been looooots of summer jobs in my past just for this reason. I was never going to stay in my hometown.)

Or is that frowned upon/Just Not Done?

A bank statement would probably help - but honestly, you shouldn't even need that, because you have a job reference. Just ask your contact if you can put them down as a reference, and that's probably that. You really shouldn't need anything else on that end.

I would think that a bank statement wouldn't hurt. A lot of landlords nowadays want to see bank statements or even do credit checks. The last time my husband and I rented, we just showed our potential landlord our bank balance and that was enough for him, he didn't see any need for a credit check after that.
