Ugh. And laptops are terrible because you can't replace just one part.

Yeah, my laptop had this problem before and I think something else severe in that the monitor wasn't even working. Already had to replace the entire top half a year or so ago.
It's ok in that it's under warranty, but the battery isn't covered and it's on its 2nd battery and that's also broken.

What brand is it?

HP >_> My sister had bad experiences owning a HP as well so I guess we have bad luck and bad choice in laptops.
