Psshh. Me too. I don't think they're all GOOD movies, but I enjoy the hell out of them nonetheless.

I unironically enjoy his movies and I respect him as an actor. I respect his willingness to totally commit to whatever awful, half-baked action movies he's in, and make it as entertaining as he can, and I think he can do a really good job when you give him the right role and the right director (go watch Port Of Call New Orleans and tell me he can't act). My love for him is basically sincere, and I don't care who knows it.

I just kind of don't get the whole internet phenomenon surrounding him. It seems like it just cropped up overnight.

(Maybe I'm out of the loop... I don't think I've ever really seen him in anything.)

What do you mean, if the Internet finds out? At least half the Internet loves him.

I'm not trying to shit on your secret, but I thought he was generally a very respected actor?

I say that because I think he's total crap, can't stand his wooden acting, and up until this moment I honestly thought I was in the minority.

I like most of them but some of them are just awful. I tried to watch Drive Angry the other day. Fuck no.

So I was in Barcelona at night and my group had just gotten here and we were walking past this famous, weird-looking cathedral and I turned and saw

Picture's from China, but it was this huge. One of the more startling moments of my life.

I never quite got the Nicholas Cage meme, a lot of the films he's in are goofy sure but I enjoy them anyway.

(Anonymous) 2014-01-22 01:06 am (UTC)(link)
All of them? Even... Drive Angry? Drive Angry.

I sometimes find myself enjoying some of his less-than-acclaimed movies as well, but...

(Anonymous) 2014-01-22 01:08 am (UTC)(link)
I legitimately worship It Could Happen To You. That film is the nearest anything's ever come to breaking me as a cynic.

Didn't manage it, but it was damn close.

But yeah, mostly it's Vampire's Kiss and Wicker Man and other assorted badness. And NICOLAS CAGE AS... FU MANCHU!

(Anonymous) 2014-01-22 01:33 am (UTC)(link)
Con Air is the greatest film ever to film, QED, no lies detected.

Also, I think the recent Community bit 'Is Nicholas Cage a good or bad actor?' really says it all - there is no way to say definitively. Nicholas Cage just IS, and we should all be grateful for having him enrich our lives.

He looks much better in this picture than he usually does. Took me a second to be sure who that was.

I like some (Raising Arizona, for instance) and hate others (Can't watch more than five minutes of the flaming-skull-motorcycle-guy one).

He's a good actor, if a bit over the top. Nothing shameful about liking his movies.

The thing about Cage is, he seems to always play the same character: in some movies that works (National Treasure and Sorcerer's Apprentice afaiac!) and in some it doesn't.

I love Leaving Las Vegas, Face Off, The Rock, the one where he comes back from hell or something (so bad, so silly), National Treasure was fun.

I just hate his voice. It sounds so whiny.

There are a few movies I think are actually good

(Anonymous) 2014-01-22 03:00 am (UTC)(link)
like Moonstruck, Peggy Sue Got Married (even with whatever he was doing with his voice), Leaving Las Vegas (even though it was horribly depressing and I never want to see it again).

And a few I know aren't good, but like anyway, like The Rock and National Treasure.

And then there are the rest of them - and, my God, the list is long.

I kept meaning to make a secret like this, but might as well admit it: I love this man's movies. I can't think of one I didn't enjoy wholeheartedly, and not in a "so bad it's good" kind of way. (Yeah, even Drive Angry and Ghostrider). He's just so much fun, and he doesn't seem to turn up his nose at a script no matter how ridiculous it is if he can have a great time with it. It's like he just doesn't give a fuck so long as he's getting paid to chomp scenery.

It probably doesn't say flattering things about my taste in cinema, but fuck it.

(Anonymous) 2014-01-22 12:42 pm (UTC)(link)
Gonna add to the pile, and say there were movies of his that I genuinely enjoyed. The Rock, Con Air, Gone in 60 Seconds, Face Off, Snake Eyes, a few others I can't think of off the top of my head. There were ones I haven't seen (Raising Arizona, Ghost Rider), and there's ones I don't like (Wicker Man, sorry), but I think he's pretty good and I've had a lot of fun watching him. Particularly Face Off, which was batshit insane, and The Rock, because watching Cage and Connery snark at each other will never not make me happy.
