You might be able to find something you like through the reviews here: http://smartbitchestrashybooks.com/
They point out when things are sexist and when the heroes are actually creepy rapist types, and those books don't tend to get good reviews. I've only heard of one that had anything to do with serial killers, though, that's odd.

I meant more that they tend to come across as would-be serial killers...
like, following the heroine around, tracking her down, watching her while she sleeps, trying to control where she goes/who she talks to, getting possessively jealous and angry, getting into her personal space, forcibly kissing her, telling her she wants it, etc etc.

It doesn't take much of a leap for my imagination to go: "Wow, this guy sounds like he's going to lock her in the trunk of his car."

Oh right, the supposed alpha male type that should be arrested immediately, lol. They call them alpholes at that site.
