The only one I have trouble listening to on LotR is Richard Taylor, but that's because of his accent. He has a really strong New Zealand accent that just hits right in my auditory uncanny valley. (I'm Australian, the NZ accent is very similar to mine.)

Actually I read the behind-the-scenes book for LotR before ever seeing any of the extras, and I really liked Richard Taylor in that--he had some fun turns of phrase and the writer kept having to use exclamation points to convey his enthusiasm--but then I actually heard his voice and went "awwww...:(" bc it totally grates. Sad because he seems like a great guy.

Aside from the accent problem I have with him (which I don't have so much for most of the other NZ crew), I think he also has a way of speaking that is very... lecture-y? It doesn't quite feel like normal conversational talking, which people like Philippa Boyens and Peter Jackson have a lot more of.

Another I have trouble listening to these days is Christopher Lee, but only in the Hobbit extras and interviews because he's starting to sound really old, with the way he has to pause mid-sentence at times. It's great that he can still do a performance in front of the camera without that showing, but behind the camera, when he's not acting? Ehh...

He is sort of lecture-y, but I thought it was kind of cute...

Aww, I love Richard Taylor. He's a smart guy; really knows his stuff and is enthusiastic about everything. I have no issue with his accent though, so that might make a good bit of difference. (All this talk of LOTR is really making me want to pull my DVD's out. Hmm....)

Oh, I don't disagree with you about him knowing his stuff! I like listening to what he has to say, it's just his accent and way of speaking slightly grates on me.

Yea, I can see how that might be annoying though. Thankfully accents don't usually get to me unless I can't understand what's being said; now that is frustrating.

There's a doctor who works at the clinic my GP works at who I avoid getting appointments with for exactly that reason - his accent is so strong I can barely understand him.

I feel so guilty when I can't understand someone because of their accent. I just want to scream 'SORRY, IT'S NOT YOU, IT'S ME!'

Sometimes when I call customer service this happens. My current doctor has a definite accent but I can understand him well enough. If I couldn't...yea, I'm not sure I'd go back either.

Yeah, I'm willing to wait a couple of days extra if it means I get an appointment with the other two doctors (both with nice boring Aussie accents) over the one with the foreign accent. I will gladly leave him to patients who can decipher what he says better than I can.
