Re: The last meal you ate

I had a dish of quinoa with slivered almonds, yogurt and fruit. And it made me sad and nostalgic, because it tasted like a ritual dish of sugared boiled wheat, nuts and herbs that you only ever get at a memorial service in the Greek church. (It sounds weird and disgusting but it's really good.)

Both sound delicious! What kind of herbs, out of curiosity?

The last time I had kolyva, it had parsley in it. Not sure whether it was the flat-leaf or the curly kind. I found a recipe that sounds similar to what I remember, except it has pomegranate seeds. Which I don't recall ever seeing in kolyva, but according to some of the sources I checked, it's traditional. I only ever remember almonds, cinnamon, sesame seeds, golden raisins, and the parsley. And in the church we went to when I was small, they used those silver dragees.

That doesn't sound weird to me, although it does make me think of breakfast cereal.

That sounds good. I've been wanting to try quinoa in a sweet breakfasty format.
