You obviously don't know anything about the kind of work real nuns do these days.

(Anonymous) 2014-01-24 12:29 am (UTC)(link)
They are supporting a sexist organization that treats women like shit and oppres them (and homosexual folks). Whatever good things they are doing, they could be doing them on their own.

There is no reason not to.

Please don't let this go the way of the f!s kink meme.

Doooooo iiiiiit.

Seriously, that quote is just so perfectly clueless.

I am.

Don't bother unless you can get a troll detector, filling a blog with troll quotes is a waste of time.

I'm just going to leave this here...

Your ignorance is both stunning and offensive. And FYI? You are not the arbitrator of what people believe.

Be an atheist if you like. But keep your stunning ignorance and narcissism to yourself.

(Anonymous) 2014-01-24 11:02 am (UTC)(link)
You know what is stunning and offensive? The Church. Thank to them, abortion is now illegal in my country. Thousands of women will suffer, have their lives ruined or even will die in back-alley abortions. But how yo udare criticizing them, who gives a shit about women and women's right to decide about their bodies! Fuck you so much. Maybe you are lucky enough to live in a country where religion doesn't interfere with the government, not all of us have that privilege.

Assuming that you're the same anon...

1. - You are still not the arbitrator of what people believe. Your very first comment is entirely about God/religion not being real. Your concern for rights - women's and otherwise - seems to have been tacked on later when people disagreed with you. Assuming that you have the only valid perspective on religion - and deliberately setting out to offend as many people as possible with your phrasing - is narcissistic.

2 - Your second comment betrays a complete lack of understanding of what nuns are, what they do, and what their relationship with the, er, more male-based part of the Church is. It's still offensive in its assumptions.

3 - Your third comment, while possibly true for your country, is also not on topic with what nuns spend their life doing or my right to believe as I wish. I'm sorry that your country has had some disappointing (to you - I have to assume that there are people living in your country that are happy for it) legislative decisions but it seems unlikely that it is the fault of every religious person everywhere that such a decision was made and pushed through by your governing legislative body. Moreover, your comment still doesn't acknowledge the organizational structure or tensions within the Church regarding those topics.

So yes, I stand by my statement.

You're criticising the church in this comment, but you're not doing it above. Above it's about faith. And you can believe in God etc. and not believe gays are sinning or want to sin, or believe that abortion should a right people have or that the Church should do better to rout out the molesters and the power hungry, reexamine their prejudices and open their hearts to everyone they're supposed to be guiding and giving strength to.

You are not automatically better for being an atheist and you are not automatically better than a nun that devotes her life to serving others in the field of theology.

Excuse me? The Episcopal Church is not sexist--our head of church, Kathryn Jeffries, is a woman. We also have gay men in our hierarchy (Gene Robinson) and we have gay marriage.

You might want to do some research before you make ignorant assumptions. (To start with, all kinds of churches have nuns.)
