But that's my point exactly. It's more like "let's cast the first pretty black woman that's hot right now, because she's the only one I know" rather than "let's cast the best black woman". A while back everyone would have been casting Zoe Saldana.

I'm... pretty sure these people know other black actresses? She's probably just on their mind a lot because she HAS been talked about so much or they're really just wanting her to get cast in a big franchise like that because it would be a big boon for her.

I'm sure that some of them know other black actresses, but many come across like the OP of this secret stated: that they haven't actually seen her in anything and don't know if she's a good actress, but they think that she looks good and want to see her in plenty of roles only based on that. Casting-wise that usually doesn't end well.

I just think that it's rather unfortunate that the fandom tends to latch into one single actress/actor at a time and cast them into everything. If they really think that she would be the best option, and not just the only black actress they know, then fine. But remember what happened with Halle Berry and Storm? Was she really the best available option for the role or just the "hot black actress that's currently popular"? Not to mention Jessica Alba as the last Invisible Woman.

I know the phenomenon you speak of, though. It annoys me because it seems like the fancaster is both trying to seem progressive by including a black actor but at the same doesn't know any besides Idris.
