Normally, characterization like hers bugs me. The only reason it didn't bug me so much in this film was because of how much sense it made that she would end up like this after her upbringing (and, in this context, the history saddened me more than the characterization irritated me).

That said, this hit a little close to home because I am very much the Elsa to a close friend's Anna (personality, views on romance, mentality, expression, etc - a lot of people independently have commented on this). And I love my friend dearly but if I spend longer than twenty minutes with her I will inevitably want to shake her by the shoulders and tell her to grow the fuck up, already. But then, I feel that way about quite a few of my friends, especially my closest ones. *shrugs*

But that's actually why I love this movie - you have a traditionally romance-obsessed and naive character, and rather than being presented as "innocence gets you love" or a good ideal, it's dissected in-movie and criticized as a cultural ideal. I have many friends who I hope took something away from this movie.
