WELLLLLL, to be fair it's heavily implied it was the super serum the OSI gave him that made him a pedophile, so it's sort of not his fault...but yeah. I don't know why they had to add that in, because they made him so likeable in the later seasons. :X

With VB, you have to embrace or ignore the horrible parts of a character in order to like them, else you'd never like anyone. I completely understand that pedophilia is way different from, say, Rusty's treatment of his sons or Brock being a womanizer.

I'll admit that I can laugh at nearly anything in fiction, while still being appropriately disapproving/disgusted in real life. That's not a skill/personality trait everyone has.

Don't forget date rape drugs on Rusty's part. Well, daterapeaccidentallyturntheblackheartsintoflymonsters drugs.

And the statutory rape of the president of his fanclub.
And pretty much most of Rusty's actions in general.

Oh dear, I can't believe I forgot about Dermott's mother. /badfan

It's fine, if we made a list of Rusty's deplorable actions there would be one an episode.

It helps that he is just as horrified by those urges as I would be.

if this was any other show then I might agree but in this case he's actually one of the most decent characters on the show because...well, it's just that kind of show. I mean, a lot of the other characters have done some pretty horrible things without even dwelling on it. Not saying you can't hate him but...come on.

Well, here's a show that I will never never see.

A shame, this show is really good, has some great characters, and has some amazing continuity.

Unfortunately as a child rape survivor, I don't think I could stomach the show with the pedophile content in it.

Yeah, it goes into the "this is so fucked up you have to laugh" territory, but it does go there that way .

Accept it doesn't have that content? As far as I remember it's not like there are any flashbacks to him hurting children. And he deeply regrets it all.

You know there really is no such thing as a recovering paedophile.
The only paedophile that is not actually a paedophile is one who has done the world the great favour of taking his own life.

I'll give you half credit on that one--it's a bit like saying someone's "ex-gay." (Then again, what percentage of pedophiles are child molesters? I've read that the majority of child molesters aren't pedophiles--they're opportunistic rapists, also targeting old people, disabled people, and generally anyone weaker than themselves--but I'm not sure of the relative size of the two populations.)

That statistic sounds hinky to me... but I'm interested. Do you remember where you read it by any chance?

That's a horrible thing to say about anyone. Period. I'm no fan of pedos but there are lots of people with that problem who aren't out raping children or even looking at kiddy porn. I feel for them because, at least in the US, we have a system set up only to persecute them instead of giving them the psychiatric help they need. A lot of those pedophiles are victims of molestation themselves or had other traumas that caused them to be that way. They don't deserve to die because they're sick.

And, yes, I did say they are sick. You can defend the person without defending the disease.

He's on experimental drugs that take away his paedophilic urges, though.

I loathe that character. I've loathed him since his introduction. (Although I'm so far behind that that might not be as comforting to you as it could be.) So, uh, solidarity?
