Guilt-tripping people in to tagging because WON'T SOMEONE THINK OF THE FRAGILE FLOWERS WHO USE TUMBLR SAVOIR TO SHIELD THEMSELVES FROM THE BIG BAD WORLD!?

Um... That's not what tags are actually for? Tag your shit so people can find it! That's a good enough reason to do so.

Ugh this. I try to tag for stuff like blood or gore when I post something. But I am not going to tag for every little thing.

I get it when it's for something like graphic violence, rape, etc... but every little thing? Not so much.

I nitpick about tagging on my own blog - I never go to other people and ask them - because I don't give a damn about HIMYM or some Underground Band or Breaking Bad.

But I did see someone content tag for mice today, so...I kind of rolled my eyes.

Then there is the flip side of this coin, where the tweemblrs carry out an entire post using the tags. Ugh.

I hate the idea that if you want to add commentary on a post, you must do it in the tags, and anyone who writes in the actual post is Doing It Wrong. I've seen posts calling this a basic rule of tumblr etiquette. =_=

AYRT

I seriously do not understand this. Who made this rule? Who enforces it? How can you have any kind of dialogue that way? Ugh. Tumblr.

Personally when I put commentary in the tag it's because I'm not particularly interested in joining the conversation, just adding my thoughts about the post for my followers to see. When I have something to say to the OP, the person I reblogged it to, or Tumblr at large, I add it to the post.

I have to say I find it annoying when people add pointless comments like "omg this!!" to a post instead of putting it in their tags, or add stupid opinions that I don't want to reblog with the original post, but eh. They're completely in their right to do so of course. And "stupid opinions" is subjective, so I can't really claim it's bad etiquette.

Pretty much this.

But yeah, it's kind of funny since there's one person on my dash who always writes really witty/hilarious things in the tags that I often do the weird tag c/p thing when I reblog their stuff, and one person who always writes pointless "OMG"/"HAHAHAHA"/"THIS IS SO TRUE!" things in the actual post that I often delete when I reblog their stuff.

This is what I use the tags for as well.

I've seen people go on posting sprees about the same topic that I don't care about without any tags or really vague tags. Either tag that shit so it doesn't spam up my dash or I'll unfollow you.

Uhm, no. And almost no one asks anyone to tag for 'every little thing'. But there is such a thing as being nice to your followers if you go on a massive spamming spreeof anything. It is nice to tag spoilers.

It sounds like someone asked you to tag something and you got butthurt about having to do something tiny and simple.

Of course, it would be 'good manners' to tag your posts, but really there is no law against not tagging.

It's kind of annoying to go on the Sherlock and see that 10% of the posts are people saying, "Please tag your post because spoillersszz!!1" Don't want to get spoiled? Stay away.

I get it when they ask their friends to tag for spoilers immediately after a new episode came out and you can't avoid seeing the spoilers your friends may post on your dashboard. But especially if it's a few days after the new episode came out/they complain about spoilers in the general tag, that's just silly.
