The Ripper Giles Syndrome

(Anonymous) 2014-01-25 12:40 am (UTC)(link)
Which fictional good guys do you headcanon as having been serious ne'er do wells or troublemakers when they were younger?

Obviously inspired by Giles from Buffy the Vampire Slayer, but doesn't have to be nearly as extreme.

I like to think that BBC John Watson was a bit of a hell raiser. What with being addicted to danger.

I agree with that. There's a fic I read about Mike Stamford that has a paragraph in it about how he thinks John's better off in the army, as it'll stop him from getting bored and killing someone in a pub fight one day. I think John's one-man raid on the crackhouse in His Last Vow is proof of how much John loves action.

Canon Watson too, IMO.

England from Hetalia(bit that's kind of cannon... then again he also broke down sobbing publicly too, so...)

I think Sheriff Stilinski had his wild youth days, along with the we-don't-really-know-anything-at-all-about-her Claudia Stilinski.
elaminator: (Teen Wolf: Stilinski's being angsty)

Sheriff Stilinski was my first thought! He might be frustrated by his sons mischief now, but there's no way I believe he was always a perfect angel.

Dr. Watson. All those nations and continents, you know. And his always getting a kick out of sneaking around and breaking rules even as a mature adult. And the fact that Sherlock Holmes's habits are just "not much of an improvement to the atmosphere" rather than "AHH AHH MY ROOMMATE'S GOING TO KILL MEEEEEE."

Professor McGonagall. Because she seems to understand misbehavior a bit too well, and disapprove of it in a bit too 'doth protest too much' a way, when she actually bothers to disapprove. :)

I think I mentioned this here before in a different context, but Leo McGarry from The West Wing. Mostly because it makes me giddy with lulz to think about him and Bartlet palling about in the '60s or whenever they met, with Bartlet all Ivy League sweater vests and Kennedy hair, and Leo all...well, very non-old-Leo-like.

And seconding the people who proposed both flavors of Watson.

Man, that reminds me fondly of this hilarious fic that mentioned a certain Madcat McGonagall and her Quidditch hooligan tendencies, haha.

Well, Roger from Mad Men's a jerk and a womanizer, but in my head canon, he also got into non-women related trouble as a kid. When he and Joan get robbed he seems very familiar with the scenario.
cloud_riven: Stick-man styled Apollo Justice wearing a Santa hat, and also holding a giant candy cane staff. (Apollo Justice is pretty awesome)

[personal profile] cloud_riven 2014-01-25 02:37 am (UTC)(link)
Probably going to be completely extra shot down if there's ever another game, but Apollo Justice was totally a juvenile delinquent. I'm assuming he got foisted off into a foster care system, and not every family was considerate or attention-giving, so he often found himself throwing rocks through windows, petty shoplifting, and getting into fights with jerks (who make fun of him, Clay, or his totally lame and disbarred hero). Lots of late lectures, detentions, and a juvenile record.

Phil Coulson. Not touching Cheese Coulson there even. Just Phil being an extra sassy agent that talked back more directly to superiors and also disregarded rules for better options for whatever it is SHIELD agents do.

Allison Argent was a scrappy little girl that picked fights with boys (mom and dad were so proud) and picked on the ones she liked.

Arthur from Inception was a legit street thug. Like, in-out-of-juvie-and-anger-management-class kind of bad, until joining the military kind of saved him from himself. And he worked hard at building a tight-buttoned image, but scratch the surface enough and you'll find a really vicious little fucker.
