For actual gold in a river, no. For pyrite in a big basin with sandy water at an elementary school California heritage thing, yes. I think if I look hard enough, I still might be able to find my pyrite bits. We used it as gold in our games with our dolls, it was ~very valuable~ although only malachite had magical powers. Obviously.
