I really don't see the point in raceswapping/genderswapping/what have you. It's not like it's giving you any actual representation because it's not changing anything about the canon itself. If what you're looking for is representation, then... what's the point?

The most obnoxiously loud people who do that don't do it out of a wish for representation but to collect SJW brownie points. I think there is a secret system that makes you level up after a certain amount of those. If you level up, you can spend your new skillpoints on skilltrees that slowly but surely turn you into a less priviledged class than before, lending you more tumblr street cred.

Honestly, the most annoying people I've seen are the ones against raceswapping. I've seen artists draw characters as different races get bashed and get tons of hate mail.

Also, people seem to think all artists who raceswap are white which isn't the case. Plenty are PoC.

You've probably never seen the WTNV fandom, then. It's like the opposite of that. If you dare to draw Cecil (whose appearance is never described) white or Carlos "not dark enough", you're racist scum according to Tumblr SJW's.

Yeah, look: I see people who claim this all the time but I've never actually seen all this hate pouring down on people who darken a character's skin, only on those who draw characters lighter than they are in canon.

this might be just a personal thing, but when i draw group pictures i get bored giving them all the same skin tone because i have to stare at the same color for hours, so often i make some of them paler, give some of them dark tans, give some of them pinker tones on their cheeks, ect ect so they all look a little bit different. so sometimes i give them dark skin, and i wish people wouldn't get so upset about it.
