Stuff with 100000+ notes, that contains stuff that is blatantly incorrect. Mostly because there is almost NO WAY to correct it at that point, so the incorrect information just keeps on getting reblogged and reblogged by people who have no idea about the accuracy and are too lazy to do a 30 sec google check.

God, even if there's a source, I know a bunch of people who don't take the time to click the link that's right there on the post. For example, there was this picspam of some ocean/beachy thing and one person on my dash was like "OMG IS THIS REAL!?!?" and there was a source link RIGHT THERE that said it was a sculpture by a French artist. *facepalm*

The problem with the popular incorrect things is that like half the people will be reblogging with commentary correcting the misinformation and the other half will be the original.

I am guilty of that once though. I saw some watermark wank on my dash once that said something like "great Renaissance artists didn't put stuff like 'BY MICHELANGELO, DO NOT STEAL!!!!' on their sculptures" and I had to be like "actually, he did exactly that and for that reason, too!" But I have very few followers so it didn't go anywhere from that.

Ooh, that's true too. If something does have a lot of notes - especially for arguments with multiple positions - you never know whose side the 'likes' are on, just that - in one way or another - that issue is popular.

God, if only Tumblr had a better developer API, I'd totally be down for making an app that takes the 'view notes' section of a particular post and display as a LJ/DW style thread. Reblogs with new content get displayed as new comments, and reblogs without new content and likes get displayed as stats upon their parent 'comment'. Unfortunately, their API sucks.

ugh, agreed. I saw that one post about artcorgi no less than four times in one day. The commentary was a warning that said that by using the site, artists are agreeing to let commissioners sell their shit, beware, it's a scam, etc. etc.

the kicker was the paragraph that was right there, for everyone to read, in bold even, that was cited as proof of these claims, clearly said "NON-COMMERCIAL" rights.

non-commercial. non-commercial. come on. think about what you're reading sometimes.

I have a friend who reblogs a lot of stuff in total agreement even though a simple search would reveal that it's actually not true. I'm always tempted to go and correct them, but then again I know them in real life and don't want to anger them.

But there really is a lot of false information going around. Some of my favourites were the under water glass pyramid thing that everyone thought was real but is actually an urban myth and that one picture with the bullfighter who supposedly broke down during a fight and became an activist against bullfighting. Not only is the man in the picture someone completely else (a man who still is a successful bullfighter today, in fact) but the animal rights activist actually only chose that path after being severely wounded by a bull.
