I too, am surprised by how bad the writing on the BBC Sherlock has gotten of late, since it started off so well.

I had originally started watching Elementary for the change of pace/different take on the mythos, and would have readily admitted it was just a procedural, but fun, and Sherlock was probably better, but... ...as of the last season there's no "probably" about it - Elementary actually has the better writing now. Which I never saw coming from a show that churns our procedural episodes 20 times a year, as compared to one that has three with years' gaps in between o_O
