Same reason why we don't think that Eren in Chinese: there's nothing that indicates it. This is a German society, so unless stated otherwise (see Mikasa), everyone is German.

But that's how YOU want to see it. Author says, this is the only surviving part of world where people all mixed up behind walls.

If Mikasa can exist then so does the others, it's that simple. Not to mention from his looks to his personality there is nothing suggests otherwise. People have right to claim he is Turkish and there is nothing wrong with it, you can go and assume he is white.

But don't cry he's white. Because it's very likely that he's not and many people already see that way.

Uh, no, that's how YOU want to see it. You say that 'nothing suggests otherwise' but by that logic nothing suggests that he isn't half-Sioux or even half-alien.

If you want to make it your personal head-canon and write something interesting about his possible heritage, go right ahead, but if you want to make the declaritive statement that he's half-turkish and that he's 'very likely not' white then you need to actually back that up with some proof. You made the claim, so back it up.

And sure, people like Mikasa exist. With exceptional rarity, to the point that it's repeatedly mentioned and was a plot-point in her backstory. If Eren was also of a mixed race, wouldn't his very rare lineage have been brought up by now?

I'm pretty sure it was "oriental" which is the common way to place a character in an Asian inpired country if the story doesn't take place in an alternative world similar to ours.

Sweet lord, what makes you "sure"? The map is based on Europe which includes *Turkey*. Isn't Turkey mostly "oriental" as well?

Furthermore it's based on a world. Take FMA for example, it's AU Britain/Europe but it's also in contact with other parts like counterparts of China, Russia etc. There is absolutely NO PROOF that Turkey or any other *non-white* country not existing in this world.

Not to mention Turks are the largest minorities in Germany and German/Turkish marriages are well common. Pretty sure same can be applied to an AU universe. Oh, not even counting that after the creation of walls most of population mixed up ALREADY. Survivors of Turkey being mixed into Wall residents is highly likely just like Mikasa's parents.

You guys are crying about this yet ignoring the fact that main character very well can be a POC. What's so hard about embracing this? It's not like Eren looks "white" either -with your bland logic-, especially considering his friends. Does he need to scream "I'M TURKISH" to prove himself? Why would a name like "Eren" would pop up in a pure white world? None of the characters bluntly said their races, except Mikasa. Rest is all based on assumptions and names. Connie is American, Sasha is Irish...yeah all of this based on...?

No, see, Mikasa is thought to be the "last of her race" which means "last of the orientals" - so it wouldn't make sense for Eren to be asian as well.

No. For one thing, is there even Turkey in the SnK world? For another, a person's name doesn't necessarily tell anything about their ethnicity.

And that's how you want to see. For one thing, race isn't distingushable in animes. Names and stereotypic actions distinct them. If you want to put them all in white corner, go ahead but I have all rights to call him Turkish. From his personality to look, I don't see what's keeping him from being one.

Second, realistically speaking Turks are the largest minority in Germany and Turkish/German marriages are more common than you think. Even if Turkey doesn't exist in SnK world anymore, it's logical that some of the Turks in Germany survived. Keep in mind that Mikasa confirms Asia DID exist, and Turkey is a part of Asia (you can look at map if you don't belive). The logical conclusion that the world as we know existed but Titans got rid of most of its population.

I just don't understand how you can overlook this.

... Uh, what are you basing this on? Which parent is turkish, exactly? His mother is Kalura (unknown origin, might be a romanization of Carla, which is european origin) and his father is Grisha (Russian origin). Both with the surname Yaegar, meaning 'hunter' in German.

You might argue that one of his parents named him a turkish name to honor their ancestors from before the walls, but that makes him a turkish descendant quite a few generations removed, not half turkish.

Unless you have something to back your statement up, Eren being half-turkish is just a headcanon.

yeah eren is a turkish name and he might have colored skin (i find "tanned skin" a stupid adjective, so mind me), that doesn't make him "at least" half turkish
