No, you arrived a century and a half too late. Loser :D

Is there anything in particular you're interested in fandom-wise? Because, if you do tumblr, I can post some links?

I mean, I'm not super in the fandom, but I have some things from when the movie first came out... Not a lot of meta, though. Sorry!

Of all the fandoms that have an expiration date, I don't think Les Mis is one of them. Last year got a whole new influx of fans, but it's still the same fandom that's been around for 25 years if you go by the theatre version and 150 years if you go by original canon.

It's like saying you've arrived too late with a Jane Austin fandom.

The fandom (for the recent movie, I mean) is still going strong, as far as I know. It's just calmed down a little bit. But overall, we've all arrived over a century too late for this fandom!

Le Mis fandom could well have stood to calm down from the insanity it was flinging around when the movie first came out imo 0.0

(Anonymous) 2014-01-25 10:24 pm (UTC)(link)
Seriously, dude, the fandom's more than a century old, there is no too late. Things are definitely a little calmer, but there's plenty of stuff still going on! What are you into?

I've seen plenty of activity on Les Mis lately :3 You're not "late". The movie came out last year, but honestly, if "being new" were a factor to get interested in a fandom...

(Anonymous) 2014-01-25 10:32 pm (UTC)(link)
It's never too late to be a Les Mis fan. :)

(Anonymous) 2014-01-25 11:07 pm (UTC)(link)
I was in that fandom (the book + stage musical version) about ten years ago and after this whole movie thing, I'm kind of glad I'm not in it anymore.

Bah! It's never too late to be a Les Mis fan. If anything, you missed what was probably an overwhelming influx of fanworks in the wake of the movie that were all just as subject to Sturgeon's Law as the fanworks of any other fandom. :)

(Anonymous) 2014-01-25 11:20 pm (UTC)(link)
it's okay, join anyway :) There are a couple dozen rabid sjws who would love to tell you you never should have been born because you didn't know that Bossuet is actually a half-black, half-Hispanic genderqueer polyamorous asexual.

wut

NA

I actually get this, and I'm not even part of Les Amis fandom.

Two other fans made you, one night in a late chat session.
Nine months later, you were born....

Luckily for you, from what I've seen the movie fandom is terribly boring, so you're not missing much.

(Anonymous) 2014-01-26 02:13 am (UTC)(link)
boring as in .... not completely batshit insane like the Sherlock fandom, or what?
greenvelvetcake: (Default)

[personal profile] greenvelvetcake 2014-01-26 02:27 am (UTC)(link)
Boring as in they focus entirely on the revolution boys, but only because they're attractive, doomed boys, not for any distinguishing character traits. At least, that's the corner I've seen - putting them into AUs that take an interesting character/setting and make them blander than plain oatmeal.

Not in the boring sense that they're a comparatively calm, reasonable fandom - that's great. It's just what they do with it.

Edit: Looking at the comment right above this one, clearly there's a much loopier sector of the fandom I'm not seeing.

I've noticed that too. There are those fans and there are the intense Marius/Eponine shippers who think Cosette is responsible for the apocalypse or something.

(Anonymous) 2014-01-26 05:36 am (UTC)(link)
But those fans have been around since the musical premiered. Or possibly since the book was published, although I doubt that. It probably didn't have a Little-Women style shipper fandom. Any brick-history fans know if there were 150 year old shipper wars when Les Mis came out?

I've noticed that too... SO MANY AUs. And the AUs are just the same thing over and over and over: they're college boys who are sometimes disgruntled with the government. Usually they work in coffeeshops. For some reason R has tattoos and E wears girl's clothes.

Ahhh, I remember watching the stage musical on TV... I can't believe I was only nine when I first heard it.

Only later did I realize I was too late to the fandom by over 100 years! XD

Seriously though, the fandom is still out there, if a bit calmer. Besides, Victor Hugo would probably say we are all too late the party anyway!

shellblade: (erik knows what you did thar)

It's never too late to be a Les Mis fan! You should go for Phantom of the Opera and Elisabeth das Musical next! :D

(Anonymous) 2014-01-26 07:46 am (UTC)(link)
Don't feel like a moron. You've probably missed the bulk of the wank. Things have got a bit better now though.

(Anonymous) 2014-01-26 01:35 pm (UTC)(link)
This in an enormously weird coincidence. I was bemoaning this exact same thing on FFA yesterday.
