I literally had to go and google who Joseph Bell was because I hadn't heard of him before. Seems like an interesting guy...

(that is to say, yes, he's an interesting guy! Frankly, it's always a bit weird to me how he is so obscure when Sherlock Holmes is easily the most famous fictional character in existence. And not only was Bell a/the prototype of Holmes, but he was also a brilliant surgeon, an amateur poet, an extremely kind-hearted and charismatic person, and one of the pioneers of forensic science. He solved actual crimes, isn't that awesome?)
