I agree, it's pretty magical how The Lion King managed to steal so much from Kimba the White Lion and still got away with it.

Disney did it better. :)

Agreed!

Concept or not, Lion King is still a retelling of Hamlet, and Kimba is not.

(Anonymous) 2014-01-25 11:14 pm (UTC)(link)
That doesn't mean that stealing is okay.

Meh. The plots are nothing alike. You could argue a better case that Disney stole Lion King from Shakespeare.

(Anonymous) 2014-01-25 11:37 pm (UTC)(link)
The only thing they 'stole' was the concept of a lion cub. The plot is Hamlet with a little Richard II thrown in there. But nice try.

Yes, they are completely different, it's not like they plagiarized several scenes or something:

Now stop being a blind fanboy/fangirl.

Wait, are they seriously comparing a picture of one main character, who is a cute lion cub, to the other main character, who is also a cute lion cub, and saying Disney ripped off the idea of a cute lion cub? Not only that, but a cute lion cub with a father? Alert the authorities!

(Anonymous) 2014-01-26 12:44 am (UTC)(link)
That one is pretty facepalming. I wonder why they thought it was a good idea when there are a lot of actual ripoff scenes, they didn't need to add that one.

I've heard legitimate arguments in regards to the concept art, but past that, they are not really much alike.

And before someone says anything about Kimba vs Simba, apparently Simba just means "lion" in whatever African language.

Yep, in Swahili.

(Anonymous) 2014-01-26 01:42 am (UTC)(link)
It's okay.
