Re: Merlin bbc...

It really really was. I felt bad for pretty much everyone in the end. I mean Mordred was a pretty nice guy and he still turned evil, and Arthur tried to do what was right in every situation and he still got shafted. Poor Gwen is alone. And Merlin is alone. And Percy looked heart broken.

Just nope.

NOT ONLY IS MERLIN ALONE, but he's alone for all eternity until Arthur comes back. Not able to die, probably not forming any connections because they'd be pointless because they'd be fleeting and his REASON FOR EXISTING IS TO WAIT FOR ARTHUR and can you imagine how bitter and jaded and angry and devastated he would be until all the feeling fades away to nothingness and he just lives century to century unfeeling and just waiting for Arthur (whom, let's face it because it's canon, he loves more than anything), who is his only anchor to the world.

and also gwaine is dead and wtf is that shit (this reminds me that i need to write my angst gwaine/merlin fic).

Also I'm sad Merlin and Aithusa never had a relationship because he was so happy when he called her from the egg and that was his first bit of happiness after he accidentally killed Uther and fucked things up for himself. I have a headcanon that Authusa and Merlin reconciled after Arthur's death and became each others support (because Aithusa did love Morgana and Merlin had too, at one one point).

Well it's a YA book series: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Dark_Is_Rising

Reason I ask is just because it has a lot of Arthurian stuff and Merlin stuff and I wondered what your take on it might be vis-a-vis your BBC Merlin feelings.

It was one of my favorite book series when I was a kid and I still really, really like it. So I would definitely say 'positive'. Merlin's a character (I don't think that's a spoiler; I'm sure you would work out who Merriman Lyon is pretty quickly) but it's set in the modern day (or rather the late 60s, early 70s, when it was written), after he's just been chilling for a thousand years, and he's trying to stop the Rising of the Dark (as per the title).

I like to headcanon that after everything goes down and Merlin is alone, he finds Aithusa and helps her recover so they're both no alone.
