Re: Hawaii, Being a Military Brat, Programming, Trumpets

The SPAM thing is actually a leftover US Military thing! Lots of places that had a considerable US Military presence for a while-- Hawaii, South Korea, certain parts of Japan (Okinawa, iirc)-- all got hooked on SPAM from the GIs. And then it gets incorporated into local cuisine and introduced to successive generations. It's a very popular hostess gift in Korea, apparently.
