Re: Russia (seems like we're doing countries)

Wow...that last one is a little...um...Interesting. But at least you kind of have entertainment with them? [At least, that's how we view that kind of thing here...then again we also assume we're going to be screwed to hell and back no matter what anyways. So.]

I'm sorry to hear that. [That the connection is there I mean, not that he managed to save lives!]

Ahh, well it's good that it wasn't anything nasty. It does sound like you guys are having some really weird luck with the torch though!

Yes, we do so love political satire :D

Just in case, I didn't imply that the Volgograd explosion was in connection with Sochi - I think that unlikely. I merely indicated that there are terrorist attacks in Russia happening at more or less regular intervals, and that Sochi, a huge international project as it is, has some potential of attracting terrorists that are already there.

Yeaah... I think the torch itself is poorly made, too. (Russian industry here).

What country do you live in, if you don't mind me asking?

Political satire is the best :D

Oh, no - I understood. I just always hate hearing that terrorism is going to be a real issue anywhere, you know? [That and I'm sorry to hear attacks are a regular problem ><.]

You'd probably be a better judge of that than I would.

Ah, Texas [so the US, but...erm. Texas is...a little...special, at least as far as we tend to act as our own country until forced to do otherwise which isn't as often as maybe we should be].

Oh! And I was also kind of wondering...If you could describe the *people* of Russia, how would you do it? I know that sounds a bit strange but...I was wondering, since we always seem to hear about you all's government like it's the sum total of everyone there, you know? Which is just a little hard to believe.

There's a tendency, certainly, and it irritates me fairly. Mostly because I'm against generalizations as such, and because one more person running around with an idea of collective consciousness, collective responsibility, or collective blame shall be the end of me. Societies do not have minds. Societies do not possess personalities. Societies cannot be held responsible.

(not directing this at you, btw, just venting).

But if any generalizations at all are appropriate, I made as many as I could in the thread below.

Oh, no no - it's okay. Tbh, I worded that very, very badly, and I really should have thought it through more than I did. I do apologize for that.

For whatever it's worth, I do agree with you for the most part, particularly since generalizations - even if based on a real thing - can really end up hurting people.
