Re: 'Cause I'm leaving on a jet plane
I'll try the water first, and go from there, I think. :)
Will do!
I'm really not going to be there long, unfortunately; I'm mostly there for a convention, and to meet some friends, but I'll take the restaurant rec, and see if they're interested, if it's not too much trouble!

(Anonymous) 2014-01-26 06:33 am (UTC)(link)I forgot to say earlier that the reason I said to buy water instead of a filtered water bottle is because usually the taste isn't improved much even though the mineral content has been drastically reduced. Different tasting water from what you're used to can ruin a trip. I think you have the best idea of just trying it and going from there.
My personal favorite restaurant is an Indian restaurant called Gandhi. It's nothing fancy, the prices are comparatively cheap, and the food is good (best Indian restaurant in Tucson but hardly the best you'll ever have). It's on Ft. Lowell one or two blocks east of N. Oracle.
You must go to Pico de Gallo on 6th Ave. which has the absolute best Mexican food in the world. It's this little place that looks a run down shack almost from the outside but inside it's bright and clean and pretty. It's total food heaven. It's been on a bunch of foodie shows in the last few years because they just make the most amazing food.
Other restaurants are The Abbey (gastropub type place with AMAZING food but pricey), Cheesecake Factory (national chain but it's not everywhere so we always tell people about it in case they've never been), and In-n-Out Burger (they're all the same but for some reason I like the one on Ajo Way best).
If you want vegan food, the only place my vegan friends agree on is Revolutionary Coffee on 4th Ave. They have a mix of vegan and non-vegan food and they have all kinds of foods you wouldn't expect at a coffee shop. The atmosphere can be really off-putting to some people though because it's like militant activist heaven in there. The owners are Marxists and anti-US military, with signs and merchandise to that effect all over the place. It can be a very nasty surprise for visitors, so just be aware of that before you go and avoid if that stuff is a problem for you.
I would say go to Ike's coffee shop on Speedway for the best coffee in town but it's closing forever tomorrow ;( I have no idea where else to go for coffee unless you like Starbucks.
I hope you enjoy your trip!
