I did a semester in Tucson. It looks like you have plenty of answers regarding the heat (although I do want to add that while I was there, we had a few 100+ days in October...), so I just want to add that, as an outsider, I found the tap water absolutely foul. I'm generally fine drinking tap water, but even with two filters, I just... could not drink it. I ended up using bottled water for the entire five months I was there.

Sorry, Tucson, I am genuinely fond of you, but what are you DOING to that water?
