Re: Irritating misinterpretations of characters in fandom and/or adaptations
But yeah. I'm not actually opposed to Muraki/Tsuzuki if it is portrayed as the amazingly screwed-up demented trainwreck it would have to be for Tsuzuki to do anything that LOOKS LIKE consent and even then it sort of wouldn't be because Tsuzuki is just that psychologically messed-up. And there ARE a few people that wrote that kind of thing. But fluff? NO. And basically my head-Tsuzuki is so protective of Hisoka that ANYTHING that has him involved with Muraki any further is a gigantic no to me. Fluff would just be several more layers of WTF.
I mean, even the CANON doesn't portray Muraki's interactions with either as a case of "he was just so pretty and I loved him so much that I had to have him" as so many yaoi fangirls tend to use to excuse their rape/non-con stuff. (I think that was the fandom that caused me to realize that no matter how much I may like certain m/m pairings, I do not want to ever be known as a "yaoi" fan.)
Re: Irritating misinterpretations of characters in fandom and/or adaptations
(Anonymous) 2014-01-26 06:21 pm (UTC)(link)I think it's perfectly fine to like derange, brutal and inhuman characters as long as you don't try to explain away or excuse the evil shit they do.
Personally, I really liked the angsty, mostly one-sided stuff with Muraki and that long haired brothel (?) owner, but there wasn't too much of that...
But yeah, the "rape equals love", "no means yes" and "it's totally romantic if one character is an insane stalker/murderer/rapist" are some pretty disturbingly prevalent opinions in the yaoi fandom. No, it's not romantic if a character basically wants to keep another characters eyes in a jar because they're so pretty, stop i~t OTL
