I never read the books. I watched the film and sort of liked it. Totally in it for the pretty people and shameless escapism.

I read the first three books before I had ever heard of the controversy with Cassie Clare. Haven't read any others. In any case, their relationship was actually my least favorite thing about the books.

Same for me, except their relationship was my favorite thing, haha. I think in some ways I'm very stereotypical as a reader/viewer.

I hardly ever like the "main" pairing of anything. There are exceptions, of course, but I usually end up loving secondary/background characters or plots more.

i disliked clary/jace as well; all of the drama related to them annoyed me so much.

Is there documented plagiarism in City of Bones? Of work the author hadn't previously written herself? Because unless there is and its the best kept secret ever to the copyright holders she's infringing upon, be honest and say you won't read these books because you hate Cassandra Claire because of decade old issues.

I don't read her either, because I don't think she's a good writer, but I hate when people dress their grudge up like it's a mighty moral stance.

i think for some people, the fact she plagiarised at all is enough to make them nit want to support her, even if she didn't do so with her cirrent works.

I think the problem is that she got so famous and popular due to a heavily plagiarized fic. A lot of people probably feel like she didn't deserve a book deal.

Although, from what little I've seen and heard, I don't envy her - she doesn't seem like a happy person. Of course, since I don't know her personally, I'm probably way off base.

yeah i think she ripped off stuff in the past for fanfics (and im sorry i ...dont care about that it sorta sucks but...its fanfic??)
But I do believe her stuff in COB is all original, whether or not its GOOD is up to debate hahaha.

By the end of the Draco Trilogy, most of the main cast of Harry Potter characters were almost unrecognizable (e.g., Draco as a romantic hero rather than a cowardly racist bully), and Clare had thrown in plenty of her own worldbuilding—which was developed much further in the Mortal Instruments series. Does it really matter if City of Bones’ Clary and Jace resemble the Ginny and Draco of the Draco Trilogy? If anything, the Mortal Instruments books are a fanfic of her own fanfic, and thus have effectively become an entirely original work."

That's not the same as plagiarizing other writers, though. It's just a hack job, in a couple senses of the phrase.

Well, she's also an extremely unpleasant person, apparently. Like Anne-Rice levels of butthurt and defensive, going after tumblrs and blogs who discuss her critically. That's just pathetic. You'd think she'd have bigger things on her plate at this point.

He has this face that is almost handsome to me, but not quite. I don't quite know how to describe it.

He looks better when they aren't trying hard to make him look gaunt and creepy. Every single picture I see of him for CoB it looks like they are trying too hard to make him look like some anorexia case, and also hide his hair away. That hair does wonders for softening his face.

Haven't read the books but I watched the first movie out of curiousity, and all I came out caring about was Alec/Magnus being canon and mostly because I think Godfrey Gao is delicious looking. *_* /shallow
