Just TV shows or any remake? 'Cause the 1941 version of The Maltese Falcon has thoroughly eclipsed both the previous versions.

TV shows. most movie remakes range from stink to unnecessary but there are notable exceptions, as you said. I've yet to see a great TV show remake.

Closest I've seen is Scooby Doo Mystery Inc, but that doesn't really count.

That's always what comes to my mind when people complain about remakes, too. Both because the third version was the best version, and because it dispels the notion that remakes are some kind of newfangled phenomenon.
