The great friendships being morphed into romantic things really makes me sad as well. Romance is really overrepresented in everything, and I just really wish that there was more focus on friendships and familial relationships, especially the latter.

I can understand what you're saying about it making you feel like an outsider too. I'm writing a fic right now mostly about family and friendship being interrupted by some nefarious plots and everything, and romance takes a backseat. I don't get a lot of feedback for it, and I've been told it's because I'm not writing popular ships and putting the romance front and center, making my story "boring".

But I just can't make myself write about the ships. To me, THAT'S what's boring.
