God forbid people augment their fiction with real life experiences! Real writers never do that!

Seriously, though. I'm assuming that you know the original poster and are objecting to their fanfic specifically, because from an outsider perspective the secret looked more like "these characters dynamic reminds me of my personal relationship so writing them is easy and enjoyable for me," and less like "OMG WE R MATT 'N MOHINDER ALL Y'ALL RECOGNIZE." As an insider, perhaps you know something about that particular fandom community that I don't, but all the same, objecting to someone writing about characters and a relationship that resonates with them sounds pretty silly.

In any fandom, it's inevitable that there will be people and 'fic in it that you don't like. In the grand scheme of things, this is not a big deal. And if the OP enjoys what they're doing, chances are they'll continue to do it no matter how much an anonymouse disapproves. Just saying.

And I have every right to dissaprove and think it's horrible writing, and every right to wish this person would stop. You do realize I'm saying "get out of my fandom" well-knowing I have no actual authority to decide who gets to be in any fandom, right? I'm merely annoyed, not delusional.

Would you seriously be happy if someone admitted that they were writing your favorite pairing ... with a completely different pairing in mind? That's essensially what that secret says. Only the pairing happens to be from real life, and has pretty wedding pictures. Even if you do something like that, it's common decency not to let the readers know. Not to mention it's good writing not to let the readers notice. The readers are not there for the writer.

Even if you do something like that, it's common decency not to let the readers know.

I'm betting that's why they posted in an anonymous secret community. Most writers are not in it entirely for the readers anymore than they're in it entirely for themselves. Writing entirely for other people would be somewhat in contrast to the idea that people write because they enjoy writing.

When you get right down to it, NO ONE is going to write Matt and Mohinder like the people who created them and actually know the characters as they were originally intended to be. And what that means, in the optomistic scheme of things, is that no matter how much inaccurate 'fic people churn out with their names on it, nothing is going to change the source material.

. . . and on a more controvercial line of thought, unless Matt/Mohinder becomes/has become canon, then strictly speaking, no interpretation of them in a romantic relationship is going to be true to the characters, and no interpretation of them AS a couple is likely to be exactly the same, since there technically is no original source material for them in a romantic context. Given that, it's pretty logical really for someone writing them to bring in relationships that they do know and can draw inspiration from.

Having held your position in the past, I can assure you - bad fanfiction is not worth stressing over. Unless its yours and you're trying to improve, in which case, I still recommend not stressing.

Thanks, Andy, I appreciate the kind thoughts. Cheers.

Don't worry, I'm hardly losing sleep over it. If anything, this is a procastination for me from other stuff which is stressing me out.

I'm betting that's why they posted in an anonymous secret community.

Yes, with a "tee hee, my wedding pic!" comment that anyone with any involvement in the fandom will recognize.

Draing inspiration is not the same as downright admitting you're not actually even trying to write the characters as they are.
