The first hit is free!
(Anonymous) 2014-01-29 12:21 am (UTC)(link)-Multiple people online have been seduced into Leverage by my talking about it, woo hoo!
-Got my mom into LotR
-was the sci-fi book dealer for all my friends. I've got this wall of bookshelves like filled with ST and SW tie-ins, along with many other sci-fi novels, so ever since high school I've been the one who would like sidle up to people and open up my coat "pssst...wanna borrow a paperback?"

(Anonymous) 2014-01-29 12:34 am (UTC)(link)I've gotten a few other friends into a handful of other comics titles, which is awesome, since I can now gush about Saga and Lazarus and Princeless with people!

(thank you though, it's been a great time and I love it to pieces :P)

(Anonymous) 2014-01-29 12:42 am (UTC)(link)They watched the whole series online, read the manga, bought full sets of physical copies of both as well as the light-novels, got t-shirts and merchandise and even dressed up as one of the characters for Halloween one year.
Even now, years later I still feel intensely gratified at how much they love (still) that show.
Re: The first hit is free!
I also got a friend into Princess Tutu. They're not into girly stuff so it was cool.
Re: The first hit is free!
Other friend in the group has read the Cordelia books but never went on to the Miles ones.
Re: The first hit is free!
Dragged another friend kicking and screaming into the Losers. Now she's a die-hard fan. SCORE!
Re: The first hit is free!
Also, Discworld. I got my 87 year old grandma hooked on Discworld after I gave her Small Gods to read. The only disappointed I have is that even after reading 15+ other books, she's enjoyed them, but never loved another as much as she loved Small Gods.

(Anonymous) 2014-01-29 12:13 pm (UTC)(link)I also convinced my mother to read Dresden Files (she's worryingly attached to fae characters) and Dad says he will be reading Bulgakov as soon as I manage to find my copy of Master and Margarita again.
I've been trying to get them to read the Laundry series (Charles Stross) and the Rivers of London series, but so far no dice.
