The first hit is free!

What are your proudest moments of getting someone else into a fandom? For me:

-Multiple people online have been seduced into Leverage by my talking about it, woo hoo!

-Got my mom into LotR

-was the sci-fi book dealer for all my friends. I've got this wall of bookshelves like filled with ST and SW tie-ins, along with many other sci-fi novels, so ever since high school I've been the one who would like sidle up to people and open up my coat "pssst...wanna borrow a paperback?"

I got my girlfriend to watch Avatar: The Last Airbender and now we're watching through the series again together and she helped me convince another friend to watch it too. You know you've succeeded when your convert starts working on other people for you. :p

Got my best friend to watch SPN, Buffy and Teen Wolf. She was resistant for all three and ended up loving them. She even marathoned Teen Wolf without me knowing about it at first. I walked into her room to find her watching it and just laughed .

Showed my mother the interrogation scene from the Sleepy Hollow pilot thinking she'd enjoy the funny and the British. Turned her into a fan of the show like she hasn't been since Jean-Luc Picard went off the air!

Quite a few people I am in a mutual follow with on tumblr watched The Last Airbender because of my blogging about it (I like to think!). At one point around Korra's first season, it was a bunch of people posting about it between their sex gifs, language lectures and game design work.

I got my best friend into Saga, and about a week later, she posted a pic of one of the... odder background character designs with a "WTF?" sort of comment. It was clear she was enjoying the title, but it's always fun to see someone else get the joy of Vaughn and Staples' twisted, twisted minds.

I've gotten a few other friends into a handful of other comics titles, which is awesome, since I can now gush about Saga and Lazarus and Princeless with people!

My constant blogging about Discworld had prompted one of my friends to ask for my help in reading it. Awesome. And I love it when I post a fic and get a comment that goes 'This is my first foray into this ship, and thanks to your fic, I think I'm going to enjoy reading more'.

I knew this one friend would like Death Note, so I recced it to them. They put it off and put it off, I think because they just aren't as much into anime as I am, but I kept mentioning it occasionally until they finally gave it a try.

They watched the whole series online, read the manga, bought full sets of physical copies of both as well as the light-novels, got t-shirts and merchandise and even dressed up as one of the characters for Halloween one year.

Even now, years later I still feel intensely gratified at how much they love (still) that show.

I got pretty much all my friends into Night Vale. That was nice because then we all cosplayed together when we went to a live show. I had a lot of fun I wouldn't have had if I had gone alone.

I also got a friend into Princess Tutu. They're not into girly stuff so it was cool.

I got one friend every single one of the Vorkosigan books over around four years of birthdays and holidays. She'll read pretty much anything, so I'm always getting her books I've liked (lots of Diana Wynne Jones when were were in middle school). And then several years later, her boyfriend zipped through all the Vorkosigan books. So we're the ones making Admiral Naismith jokes and oblique "kitten tree" references... ;)

Other friend in the group has read the Cordelia books but never went on to the Miles ones.

My friend was totally an Angel/Angelus fan, loved him and him alone, and i got her into, and loving, Spike. Whooo! And then Spike/Angel. Double whooo!

Dragged another friend kicking and screaming into the Losers. Now she's a die-hard fan. SCORE!

I have lost count of the number of times I've converted someone into becoming either an ATLA or Doctor Who fan: parents, siblings, cousins, grandparents, friends, friends of friends...

Also, Discworld. I got my 87 year old grandma hooked on Discworld after I gave her Small Gods to read. The only disappointed I have is that even after reading 15+ other books, she's enjoyed them, but never loved another as much as she loved Small Gods.

I've gotten several people into RWBY, via Tumblr, IRC, and a forum I hang out on. And at least two people into Welcome to Night Vale, too, although I think I'm slightly prouder of getting people into RWBY.

I got my sister into Buffy, which was fun because we really don't have matching tastes at all (she doesn't care for sci-fi or fantasy and prefers realistic dramas and such) and she originally didn't want to watch the show because she thought it would be scary. After I kept telling her how awesome it was she finally gave in and now we sometimes randomly trade quotes from it.

I matchmade my pal with X-Files. I don't watch it but I knew she'd like it. I was right! She's like OBSESSED. :p

I got both of my parents into Discworld and Harry Potter, my dad into anime and A:tLA, my mom into video games and steampunk, and my best friend into Ghibli movies. Now dad shows Spirited Away in all of his Intro to Religion and World Religions classes (he's an adjunct instructor at the local uni) and has Small Gods on his recommended reading list for both classes as well. I feel entitled to claim partial credit for all of his students who become hooked on Discworld and/or Ghibli as a result of this.

Several people have commented that my fanfic for some of my odder fandoms has made them check out the canons. Advantages of being multifannish.

I also convinced my mother to read Dresden Files (she's worryingly attached to fae characters) and Dad says he will be reading Bulgakov as soon as I manage to find my copy of Master and Margarita again.

I've been trying to get them to read the Laundry series (Charles Stross) and the Rivers of London series, but so far no dice.
