~Bey~

(Anonymous) 2014-01-29 12:48 am (UTC)(link)
Why do people idol worship beyonce?

She's a not really intelligent woman who spews a lot of nonsense, shakes her ass for money, and just isn't that good an artist. All whilst her husband dances around her in a suit (because it's only empowering for women to choose their choice by dancing in a thong) and goes off to cheat on her in europe.

What makes her 'I'm owning my sexuality!!1' any more meaningful than Miley Cyrus or any other pop star?

Probably because they disagree with your standards and judgments about why you should like someone. also because she makes really good pop music really consistently.

but then i again i like miley cyrus so

This, plus some of the stuff she's said/done in interviews is pretty awesome.

My question for you is why do you care so much? I don't care about her one way or the other, but other people loving her doesn't hurt me.

She's a not really intelligent woman

She's overhyped (every celebrity is overhyped) but where the fuck did you get this? What's your case for her being not really intelligent (yet somehow wildly successful in her own right).

Successful in her own right?

Intelligent?

I was going to reply properly but got distracted by thoughts of how awesome Beyonce is so *waves hand* Your post is irrelevant.

She's a good performer, is incredibly good looking, has a lot of charisma, has been marketed well since her early career, has consistently pushed out decent pop songs, and seems self-possessed and down to earth while simultaneously appearing very glamorous?

I just wish her incredibly talented sister got even half the spotlight that she does.

She's really beautiful and has a good voice, and makes catchy tunes? Seriously, people have been famous for less.

"people have been famous for less."

Case in point: Paris Hilton, the Kardashians, and the idiots from Jersey Shore.

I always wondered the same thing. Beyoncé doesn't appeal to me at all. I watched her Grammy performance and wondered who let her on stage with what looked like just-from-the-shower hair.

I don't agree with your reasons, but I do get pretty sick of the rampant objectification of female singers. I'm not a fan of Beyonce on the basis that her music isn't my thing and I find her lyrics bad but so what if her brand is as vapid as Miley Cyrus? Pop music is about disposable idols rather than artistic integrity or anything else.

If you don't like her as a person, fine, but when people criticize her as a performer, I always want a list of what they consider a good pop performances, if they like pop at all (they probably don't).

I don't like her songs at all, and she doesn't impress me as a performer (not bad, just not amazing). If she has an enormous fan following, good for her, but I don't get idol worship in general, and certainly can't be bothered with her.

I don't get it either, but I just shrug and go on my own way. Not going to waste time contemplating why other people like her. To each their own!
