Re: Prejeduces Based on super powers
It's also giving me ideas for potential characters by mixing up these assumptions. I WOULD like to see people surprised by a telepath who's as dumb as a box of hammers or a lazy and apathetic pyrokinetic.
Invisibility: I'd say they'd have a reputation for being perverts or otherwise untrustworthy because 'who wouldn't take advantage of that power'. Or perhaps being assumed as shy or introverted.
Umbrekinetic: If you're going to be factoring in religious or superstition based prejudice (and IMHO you should) I imagine that these people would get the most rap for being evil or having a malignant sources of their powers. Even non-religious people could see it this way because humans do have the instinctive fear of the dark and shadows.
Technopathy: Assumed to be nerdy and techno-wizzes, and good lord, if you thought the hysteria about hackers was bad, imagine the shit these guys get. They'd get dirty looks everytime a new virus popped up or if they ever refused to help with your computer. Basically what IT people put up with times a factor of ten.
Telekinetics: Thought of as very calm or meditative, and people would freak out if they ever met a telekinetic with a temper or who is otherwise emotional. Because if they get angry then obviously they'd starts throwing things around, right?
Genkinesis: Did you mean geokinesis, the ability to control earth? I'd say they're assumed to be down-to-earth, solid, and dependable.
Re: Prejeduces Based on super powers
Those would be funny. I do hope my readers (when I get the story published) have fun with all the possibilities of these powers and this world. I'd love to see people's Psi OCs if they made any.
Inivisbility- ...yeah pretty much what I was thinking. Either seen as perverts or shy. and among the more traditional sorts, I see people thinking girl-shy, boy- pervert. (which is funny because I have a female antagonist with invisibility powers that's quite a pervert with them and also among the main characters family I'm imaging a more harmless character that plays the part of the devout good girl with her parents but is quite a perv secretly. Also I'm thinking of giving invisibility to a boy who's really shy and sweet and picked on by his father.)
Umbrekinetic- I will be most def. That sounds cool.
Technopathy: I'm thinking they' be seen as tech wizzes, possibly hackers but also be seen as rather cold and emotionless so a combo of what you said and what anon above said. I have an interesting character with this power who actually works as a CEO of a cellphone company and on the surface seems to be unemotional but it's to hide a serious temper / emotional problem he has.
Yeah that's what I meant. I apologize i wrote this late at night when my medicine had kicked in and I was quite woozy. and that sounds like a good idea. Though I can see some differences in perception based on what kind they are. If they have plant type geokinesis, I can see people either thinking they are lazy (lethargic in the dark) or assuming they are hippies or something.
