Anyone here watch funny, engaging video game reviewers or LPers? Preferably ones that stick to more casual fare that even a random person who knows little about video games could recognize.

[personal profile] herpymcderp 2014-01-30 12:46 am (UTC)(link)
My go-to for LPs is Two Best Friends Play. Even if you really don't understand anything about games, the beauty of their LPs is that they wind up teaching you a lot of about game design since all of them have working in the industry in one way or another.

Also, hilarious as fuck. I suggest starting with their earlier stuff before diving into their current LPs though, or the jokes they make are just not going to make much sense.

I love two best friends play. I don't even care if the game is shit, or something I've never heard of, I just want to hear them goofing off and screaming at things.

It's almost better when the game is shit, imo. Pat not being angry at something makes for a pretty dull video.

You do have a point. Some of their best vids are of the worst games. The bugs they run into always crack me up so bad too. (The Star Trek one is one of my favorites.)

Err... it's not completely casual though all of it can be played that way, but Matt Visual and Woodenpotates are pretty fun? They do most of their stuff together but split the series between their two channels (Like on one channel they're posting LPs of The Raven, and on the other they're playing the Starbound beta... That kind of thing.

I know a couple. I'm not sure how casual you want, though.

Two Best Friends: http://www.youtube.com/user/TheSw1tcher?feature=watch

Mangaminx: http://www.youtube.com/channel/UCTcc3KiX3RYXhi96vI_jJPA

Cryaotic : http://www.youtube.com/channel/UCu2yrDg7wROzElRGoLQH82A

Markiplier (Warning though, he likes doing horror games and he can get loud sometimes, but he's pretty cool. He even does charity streams for Child's Play.) :http://www.youtube.com/channel/UC7_YxT-KID8kRbqZo7MyscQ

The Angry Joe Show (Does reviews): http://www.youtube.com/channel/UCsgv2QHkT2ljEixyulzOnUQ

ProJared (Also does reviews): http://www.youtube.com/channel/UC2e0bNZ6CzT-Xvr070VaGsw

Hope those are helpful!

My favorite game... playing... people (they don't really LP persay) are the Video Games Awesome! crew. Most of their videos are them going into a game fresh out of the box without playing it beforehand, and they all interact with each other very well and are hilarious to watch. Mind you, their humor isn't for everyone (they enjoy double entendres and their shows are pretty much PG-13), but even if you know nothing about the game they're playing, that's ok! They might not either, so you learn as they're learning.
One of my favorite shows they've done is Rhythm Heaven Fever, which actually got me to purchase the game myself. They had so much fun with it, they convinced me to give it a try. I'd suggest checking that one out!

I'm currently watching the VGA unboxing/first-plays of the Xbox One. It's so sad, and yet so hilarious. Fraser screaming "IT'S A BRAND NEW GAAAAAME!!!!!!" when the system suggested maybe the Ryse disc was dirty was ragefully delicious.

PewdiePie!

(I only recently found out he has a massive backlash... guess that happens automatically when you get famous on Youtube but even if his humor isn't clever and kind of stupid, he makes me crack up, so.)

(Anonymous) 2014-01-30 02:21 am (UTC)(link)
He makes rape jokes. Just FYI. I know that might bother some people.

(Anonymous) 2014-01-30 02:34 am (UTC)(link)
From what I saw, his rape jokes were joking about himself being molested by the in-game monsters he was running away from. Honestly did not bother me, and I'm an assault survivor.

But what was cool, I thought, was that when some people pointed out that rape jokes were bad, he actually made a video apology and basically said he was going to stop doing rape jokes and apologized.

I haven't seen all of his videos, and hardly any of the new ones, but he makes me laugh and he always struck me as a pretty decent guy. (pretty sure he even donated a lot of the money he made to some charity)

(Anonymous) 2014-01-30 04:09 am (UTC)(link)
It still might upset some people? Rape jokes are rape jokes. Him making them about himself might still be upsetting to someone. So it's worth noting.

Helloween4545 - He does mostly horror games but it's still a large variety of games, from Castlevania to Silent Hill to F.E.A.R. to American McGee's Alice.
