Favourite TV Shows From Twenty Years Ago Or More?

(Anonymous) 2014-01-30 01:44 am (UTC)(link)
Because since stuff started coming out on DVD and mysteriously appearing on youtube, I've been watching so many things that I hadn't seen since I was a kid, and remembering why I loved them.

Things like:
- The Incredible Hulk
- Alias Smith & Jones
- Wild Wild West
- The Fugitive
- UFO
- The Six Million Dollar Man
- The Bionic Woman
- The Magician (with Bill Bixby)
- Scarecrow and Mrs King
- The Ghost and Mrs Muir
- Charlie's Angels
- The A-Team
- Children of the Stones
- Airwolf
- Dukes of Hazzard
- Kojak
- Sapphire & Steel

(Yes, before anyone asks, a lot of my early television experience was from the 70s)

How about you guys?

I'm not going to try to produce a comprehensive list, because I'm actually pretty bad at remembering all the media I like, but one that springs to mind (because I've been doing a re-watch lately) is Red Dwarf.

Knight Rider was my absolute favorite show throughout most of my childhood. Buck Rogers was a close second. And then I recently rediscovered Little House on the Prairie, and have been watching that again... it's sometimes so incredibly glurgey, and the last season is kind of like the last season of TOS in its ridiculousness, but I can't help but love it, and it's shocking how many things I remember about half the episodes.

And then I watched a ton of old black-and-white sitcoms on "Nick at Nite", and my favorite for a long time was Mr. Ed. I remember really loving Car 54, Where Are You? and The Patty Duke Show too. And then TBS showed slightly more recent stuff in the afternoons and I got hooked on The Brady Bunch and Gilligan's Island.

Edit: Oh - and I just remembered Out Of This World, which was practically the only sitcom I ever watched as it aired rather than years later when it was in reruns. My first pet actually got his name from that show. :D

Not completely related, but like you and Little House On The Prairie, I recently rewatched some episodes of The Waltons, and was amazed by how much I remembered.

Mash, the Addams Family, Night Court, Looney Toons from my mom's generation.

From my generation: Animaniacs, Tiny Toons, MST3K (arguably, it ran 1989-2000) and probably a few others that aren't popping into my head at the moment.

Because no one has said it yet--Starsky and Hutch. That show was fun and ridiculous and heartwarming, and it has forever caused me to be drawn to buddy cop dynamics in the hopes of finding the same interactions again.

I still have a soft spot for Bewitched because it was my favorite show as a kid, although even then I thought Darren was an asshole.

Law & Order, obviously, if that counts. It started its run more than 20 years ago but then it lasted 20 years so idk.

M*A*S*H and Twilight Zone are coming to mind. I kind of inherited those shows from my family! The former from both my parents (and my mom watched it with her dad), and the latter from my mom and aunt. So they're important to me! :)

I like Star Trek TOS and TNG, too. And lots of old cartoons, and probably other stuff I'm forgetting.
