Re: Feminism MRA and Men

(Anonymous) 2014-01-30 01:53 am (UTC)(link)
Well, haha, don't call yourself an MRA - if I understand, that movement isn't founded upon "men's equality/issues" (which might be legitimate) so much as it is "men are superior and women should be in the kitchen." At least, that's how I understand it. So that would be going the exact opposite from feminist.

I know there are many radical "feminists" who are really just nuts, they think men can't be feminists, men suck always, women are better, etc. But they aren't real feminists, as far as I'm concerned. A feminist is someone who believes in gender equality, and recognizes that it's not equal right now - and also recognizes that women are getting the short end of the stick more often, but I have no problem using feminism to recognize that there are problems that men have, too.

Just call yourself a feminist, and if some crazy person knocks you for it, say it's because you support gender equality and that's that. I'm sure the vast, vast majority of normal pro-equality people would accept you, it's just always that the radicals are the loudest.
