Re: Feminism MRA and Men
You can call yourself a feminist because the goals you mentioned are, truly, what we're looking for here. In addition to wanting a world where men and women receive equal rights and pay under the law, I would also like a world where men aren't pressured to conform to a performative ideal masculinity (which doesn't actually exist since the definition of what it is to be a "man" is exclusionary by nature and meant to create social heirarchy) and marginalized if they don't. Unfortunately every bit of the MRA movement that I've seen only seeks to reinforce the unattainable masculine ideal as something men inherently are, and I can't accept that. Calling myself a humanist, or egalitarian, to me implies a willful ignorance of the fact that there is still a gender gap and it's still skewed toward white males.
The majority of my feminist friends understand that my concerns regarding my gender don't preclude their own goals or make me less willing to embrace and support them. If you happen to be hanging around people who don't see the importance in bringing the fight for equality to all genders/identities I suggest you just stop hanging out with them. There are lots of us male feminists out there, and we're more than happy to call you one of us.
