a question for voice students at F!S

do you have any advice about expanding and maintaining the low part of your range? I used to be reliably able to sing F3 or even E3, but now my teacher seems to think I'm losing my low notes, and I don't want to! Worse yet, he apparently thinks I should just resign myself and suggested I ask the choir director to switch me to first alto, but don't tell her why "because she'll be angry that I'm interfering with her dispositions for her singers." Meanwhile in chorus, second altos are supposed to get down to the low D flat in "Eatnemen vuelie"...
