Well the manga also had horrible art, made the step-mother into an evil horrid person, and kinda ignore a lot of what people liked about the movies? Or what people were hoping for Sarah/Jareth hook ups.

Exactly. I mean, yes, "Labyrinth" is a typical "Chosen One" story, but it did so many things so-wrong-its-right for me. Putting Toby in there was the main character... If the writer had paid attention to what "sells" in fandom, rather than "awesome, I've been tapped to do Labyrinth so I'll do it MY WAY!", I think it would have gone over better. It's not horribly written, and it has some interesting points, but when I compare it to, say, Pika-la-cynique's "Girls Next Door" or even Asherhyder's "Roommates" with the current story arc, which are unofficial fanworks, it suffers greatly in both art and squee factor.
