Because:

A) the adaptations never ever get Irene right

B) Moriarty IS THE NOT THE ONLY FUCKING VILLAIN FOR FUCKS SAKE

AYRT:

1) not even Granada?

2) Fair point

(Anonymous) 2014-01-31 12:04 am (UTC)(link)
1) yeah, that's the one exception.

Well, yeah, Granada got her right (and did so damn well), but I don't think it needs to be a right-down-to-the-exact-canon-details adaptation in order to be a in-character adaptation, if you know what I mean, and it's kind of a shame we've never had her take a somewhat expanded or altered role in an adaptation without being in love with Holmes or vice versa or a criminal.

1) Ah, yeah, I was gonna say, imo Granada made Irene completely awesome.

I had this discussion again just a few hours ago. She could have been a hacker/cat burgler, fahgawdsake.

(River Song? Vash? Gloria Red Dorian? :p)

Once upon a time, I had honestly expected BBC to have her be some kind of hacker. It seemed like a logical, 21st century way for a person to get a hold of information someone might worry about her using as blackmail without her actually being a blackmailer.

Exactly. The whole lesbian dominatrix thing just seemed like ... arbitrary fanservice. (But then again, that was the ep with Sherlock in a sheet. :p)
