I don't like Moriarty, either, so... yeah. Hell, he's a big reason why I didn't even bother with the second Ritchie movie. And I LOATHE the BBC versions of both Adler and Moriarty, Oh, dear God. Though at least Adler has only shown up twice (and once for like two seconds); Moriarty's all over the place (ok, not really; I exaggerate to make a point) and I'm getting sick of it.

I didn't like the BBC versions of either one, either. It just seemed like such a shame, what a waste of characters. The Guy Ritchie versions were also really disappointing.

Granada, yay.

Uh no, sorry. I'd like to see some good non-Granada, imaginative adaptations too. Granada is a great show, but it's not a sufficient substitute for creative adaptations with distilled or fresh takes on the characters.

There's always Russian Holmes, unless you really yearn for modern settings. Doesn't bother me, personally.

ayrt

Ugh, I certainly don't want modern settings. I have nothing against people who do like modern settings, but for me, Holmes in the modern world is not Holmes. The character is such a part of the era and context for me I lose all enjoyment if he's separated from it.

I just want a NEW good film or series that is set in the Victorian era, but combines/creatively alters the plots or comes up with original plots, but does so in an in-character way, rather like very good fanfic with a filming budget. A bit like Russian Holmes, but more so. :)

Though Russian Holmes also does the "Irene as sexy dangerous love interest with Serious History with Holmes", which made me nope a bit.

Agreed about the BBC. The unaired pilot was the first one I watched, and I thought that if it was going to be Sherlock Holmes stories! In modern London! it was going to be awesome, but then I watched the aired pilot with the cab driver going ~it was Moriarty all along~ I just groaned.
